U.S. Retailer ABT Electronics Makes an Additional Profit of Nearly $2W per month by Recycling Styrofoam Packaging Waste

ABT Electronics (abbreviated as ABT), is the largest independently operated retail store in the United States and has been operating in the Chicago area since 1936. ABT is a family business with only one store, covers an area of 70 acres (280,000 square meters), and its business scope covers electronics, electrical appliances, and furniture, which occupies a pivotal position in the industry.

While ABT has been focusing on the development and expansion of its main business, it has also paid great attention to the implementation of the company's environmental protection philosophy. ABT has already started its styrofoam recycling journey for a long time. Every time it delivers goods to customers, the staff will take the styrofoam carton packaging of home appliances and furniture back to the company by the way, which greatly improves customer satisfaction and also increases the possibility that customers will repurchase the product next time. 

Before ABT cooperated with GREENMAX, there were already two styrofoam recycling machines processing their styrofoam packaging waste. As ABT’s business has been growing, the volume of styrofoam has also increased a lot from the beginning, and the existing machine capacity can’t keep up at all, coupled with machine product design defects, resulting in high maintenance costs.


By chance, ABT learned about the high efficiency and low-cost maintenance of the GREENMAX styrofoam recycling system in dealing with styrofoam. The two started their cooperation in 2017. ABT first replaced the previous two styrofoam recycling machines with a GREENMAX M-C200 Styrofoam Densifier; Later, while planning to expand the warehouse in 2020, they upgraded their recycling center and also upgraded the M-C200 to M-C300 to continue the styrofoam packaging recycling journey.

Since ABT and GREENMAX have cooperated, they have been committed to achieving the full EPS packaging recycling as much as possible. GREENMAX has also combined the previous M-C200 and the latest M-C300 into double M-C300 Styrofoam Densifier according to the graphic design of ABT’s new warehouse. In this way, the production capacity is maximized and the advantages of M-C300 to save labor and energy consumption are also fully utilized. 


Up to now, ABT has recycled at least 20T per month, not only generating nearly $2W of income, but the most important thing is that the company's environmental protection concept has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, and more and more people have begun to join in and work hard for styrofoam recycling.
