Soprema and Its Subsidiary TRAXPO Benefit from GREENMAX Foam Densifier in Foam Recycling Projects

Founded in 1908 and headquartered in Strasbourg, France, Soprema is the largest European manufacturer of building materials. Its traditional business is waterproofing materials, and it has also added XPS foam insulation board business. Soprema has 63 manufacturing plants, 90 subsidiaries and more than 4,000 distributors worldwide.

To meet the development of XPS insulation board business in Europe, Soprema Canada, a subsidiary of Soprema, acquired TRAXPO, a foam recycling plant in Tarragona, Spain, in July 2014. Since then, Traxpo has been collecting cold-pressed and hot-melt foam materials from all over the world, and then transporting them back to the Spanish factory for granulation. The recycled granules are then supplied to Soprema's various XPS foam production plants in Europe.

In order to better develop its XPS foam production business, Soprema needs to use recycled materials. The average price of new materials in Europe is 1400€/T, but the production cost of r-GPPS will not exceed 1200€/T during peak periods. Therefore, using recycled materials can greatly reduce production costs, thereby improving market competitiveness, allowing them to quickly open factories in various European countries and occupy a large market share. Not only that, using recycled materials for production and manufacturing is also an environmentally friendly production method, which is an effective use of renewable resources and reduces environmental pollution.

Traxpo's global recycling business has rapidly expanded from Europe to North America and South America. In the long-term collection process, they learned that GREENMAX foam recycling solution is distributed throughout various end users. Among them, the foam densifier has become the first choice in the North American market due to its simple operation and higher compression density. For global recycling EPS granulators such as Traxpo, compared with a cabinet of 10 tons of cold pressed materials, they also prefer a cabinet that can hold more than 20 tons of hot melt materials because the compression ratio of the foam densifier is relatively high. This can greatly reduce the transportation cost per ton. In addition, the hot melt material with a density of up to 600kg/m³ can greatly increase the granulation capacity. Therefore, when Traxpo needs to directly invest in the terminal, GREENMAX foam densifier becomes Traxpo's first choice.

The cooperation between GREENMAX and Traxpo began at the K exhibition in 2022. After seeing the machine on site, the customer bought an foam densifier M-C100 exhibition prototype. In 2023, they started a new recycling project in Brazil and ordered a foam densifier MC-200. In early 2024, they achieved a win-win cooperation with Moroccan recyclers and ordered an foam densifier M-C200. So far, Traxpo has ordered a total of 3 foam densifiers for EPS foam recycling. With the deepening of business communication between the two parties, we started to contact our parent company Soprema's new EPP foam recycling project in July 2024, and the recycled EPP is used to produce new waterproof materials. The customer also learned that GREENMAX foam densifier can recycle multiple materials such as EPS, EPP, XPS, etc., and that several companies in Europe have used the foam recycling solution provided by GREENMAX to process EPP foam a few years ago. Therefore, the customer finally decided to order 3 customized foam densifier M-C200 at the end of 2024 to recycle EPP in large quantities in Europe next year and truly expand and improve EPP foam recycling.

Soprema will invest more machines in the future for global EPS&EPP recycling, and INTCO Recycling will continue to improve GREENMAX machine performance and service quality to satisfy our customers and achieve a win-win situation.
