Scandinavian Designs is a family business with more than 50 years of history and more than 40 furniture showrooms. It owns several brands, including Dania Furniture, the largest furniture store chain in the Northwest, operating more than 50 stores in the United States. Their furniture products are very popular in the market because of their unique Nordic minimalist style in the North American market. With the development in recent years, it has also expanded many stores in the eastern region of the United States.
As a leading brand in the furniture industry, Scandinavian Designs' extremely high turnover also represents the production, transportation, and use of a large number of furniture Styrofoam packaging. If a hundred years ago, no one would have cared how much Styrofoam was thrown into landfills, and no one would have thought about what to do with waste Styrofoam. But Europe has spearheaded plastic recycling initiatives, and a growing number of cities in the U.S. are running the Styrofoam recycling campaign. Therefore, it is not correct business practice to dump waste Styrofoam in landfill as before. In addition, with the growth of the business, the amount of waste Styrofoam disposal has surged, and Scandinavian Designs can no longer bear the high cost of Styrofoam disposal (landfill).
Scandinavian Designs' stores and warehouses in Salt Lake City, Utah, are plagued by Styrofoam packaging. Styrofoam packaging can fill a warehouse with ease. Styrofoam can easily cause fire if not handled properly. To get around this problem, Scandinavian Designs Utah decided to incorporate a Styrofoam compactor based on a plan from a warehouse in Seattle.
The company has installed a GREENMAX Styrofoam Recycling machine made by INTCO Recycling at its Seattle warehouse and has met the demand for Styrofoam packaging. INTCO Recycling's ability to provide the most professional Styrofoam recycling solutions has been demonstrated at its Seattle warehouse. So in 2019, the Salt Lake City warehouse of Scandinavian Designs decided to partner with INTCO Recycling to recycle Styrofoam packaging. Based on demand and recommendations, the company installs GREENMAX Styrofoam compactor A-C100 in this warehouse, which can achieve a capacity of 200 pounds per hour.
So far, this Styrofoam compactor has been running smoothly for more than four years. Scandinavian Designs is very satisfied with the Styrofoam recycling project set up in Salt Lake City, helping them recycle more than 200,000 pounds of Styrofoam packaging, saving a lot of warehouse space and labor costs, and also saving on high waste disposal fees. And compressed Styrofoam is a recyclable material that can be sold to recyclers. Hopefully in the future more and more white Styrofoam garbage will be recycled and our blue planet will become more and more beautiful.
