A Life Scout Has Launched A Polystyrene Recycling Project Aiming to Tackle Pollution

Last weekend in Delaware, a life scout began her polystyrene collection at Hayes High School. She tries to call upon people to realize the importance of polystyrene recycling on account of the pollution caused by undegraded polystyrene waste.

The opportunity that Rowan Hering decided to collect waste polystyrene is she has found a lot of polystyrenes when she was cleaning out her base room. In her opinion, polystyrene can’t be thrown away casually or landfilled because it’s undegradable. So, the only thing that she could do is collecting polystyrene. Then she has designed her Eagle Scout project since last July. And this polystyrene collection activity is also a part of the project. As a junior, as well as a local scout, Hering hosts the collection in the Hayes student parking lot from 10 a.m. to noon.

After collection, all polystyrene will be transported to a recycling center in Hillard. Why not consider delivering polystyrene to the local recycling sites? Because the City of Delaware Public Works Department does not currently recycle polystyrene. Different from Delaware, Hillard begin polystyrene recycling for some time and acquired some good results. It’s obvious that recycling polystyrene has greatly reduced the burden of landfills, as well as air pollution and water pollution. On the other hand, recycling polystyrene also makes profits, only with a polystyrene compactor. By selling compressed polystyrene to recyclers, Hillard gets stead earning.

What Hering wants to do is not only polystyrene collection in Delaware. To tell the public that Delaware, Ohio needs a polystyrene compactor to recycle polystyrene, this is her final target. Now her project has attracted more and more residents to join with her.
A girl is trying her best to protect our environment, should we ignore and watch impassively? We have to know; polystyrene never goes away. It will outlive all of us, this thing of our creation.
