Chemical and Mechanical Recycling Combine to Drive XPS Foam Recycling

Agilyx and Technip Energies have developed TruStyrenyx technology to produce 99.8% pure recycled styrene monomer from waste extruded polystyrene. It can be used to reproduce styrene monomer derivatives, such as synthetic rubber, extruded polystyrene, etc.

This technology to produce high-purity recycled styrene monomer combines Agilyx's pyrolysis process and Technip Energies' purification technology, which can directly use recycled styrene as raw material to make new XPS, EPS and other products. This type of chemical recycling uses pyrolysis (heating the foam without oxygen) to break down the waste XPS into its polymer components, which can then be used to produce new plastic materials. There are usually two methods of XPS foam recycling. In addition to chemical recycling, waste XPS can also be converted into recyclable materials through mechanical recycling.

Mechanical recycling refers to XPS foam recycling by compacting and granulating XPS foam into recycled particles. Waste XPS foam is first collected and sorted, and contaminants such as tape are cleaned. XPS foam needs to be compacted into tight foam ingots by a professional XPS densifier to improve transportation efficiency and facilitate subsequent XPS foam recycling. Compacted XPS foam ingots can be sold to foam manufacturers or recyclers for processing into PS particles and making recycled products, such as environmentally friendly wall panels, outdoor flooring, bicycle helmets, etc. The market demand for XPS foam ingots and PS particles is now very strong, and consumers are more inclined to environmentally friendly products. Moreover, some countries and regions have begun to require the addition of 15%-20% recycled materials in the manufacturing of plastic-related products. Therefore, XPS foam recycling has become an investment project with huge returns, and you only need to invest in an XPS densifier to participate in this project with both economic and environmental benefits.

GREENMAX XPS densifier, affiliated with INTCO Recycling, compacts large blocks of XPS foam into compact foam ingots at a 90:1 ratio. The high compaction ratio of GREENMAX XPS densifier is one of the reasons why this machine is more popular among consumers than cold-pressed compactors and hydraulic compactors on the market. The XPS densifier is equipped with screw melting technology for continuous hot melt discharge at a ratio of 90:1. A 40-foot-high container can carry 25 tons of high-density hot-melt XPS foam ingots. Because XPS foam is melted through a high temperature, almost all hot melting machines on the market will produce some odor. However, GREENMAX XPS densifier has passed SGS odor testing to ensure that the discharged odor has no impact on the environment or human body. GREENMAX can also install exhaust systems for customers to ensure that there is no odor at the site where the machine is working.

Additionally, INTCO Recycling can provide an integrated XPS foam recycling solution. In addition to the professional GREENMAX XPS densifier, INTCO Recycling also provides customers with sales solutions for XPS foam ingots to help customers complete one-stop XPS foam recycling. We purchase XPS ingots at a preferential price or provide customers with other local sales channels to help customers turn XPS foam waste into treasure. Through the sales of XPS foam ingots, customers can quickly get a return on investment in XPS densifiers, and turn XPS foam recycling into a stable source of profit for the company, establishing an ESG environmental image.
