Foam Compactor: the Eco-Friendly Alternative to EPE Recycling

Can EPE recycling be performed using cold pressing technology? GREENMAX can give you a positive answer.

GREENMAX mainly performs expanded polyethylene recycling using machinery and equipment that converts waste EPE foam into recycled particles through crushing, compaction, and re-granulation. Our developed foam compactor Zeus Series is the best choice for EPE recycling in the eco-friendly way.

The EPE compactor combines cold pressing and surface hot melt technology without any environmental impact and ensures that the flexible EPE foam does not bounce or expand after compression. The expanded polyethylene recycling machine guarantees a high compression efficiency of 50:1, and the material of the cold-pressed foam blocks does not change, making it easy to regenerate and pelletize.

Environmental Advantage

Compared to hot melt equipment, the GREENMAX foam compactor consumes less energy, produces no odors and is more environmentally safe. The high temperature hot melt technology can achieve a high compression ratio of 90:1, but it produces high odor during the recycling process and requires an exhaust gas filtration system.

Some customers are very concerned about this, so we usually recommend them to use EPE compactor Zeus Series to compress EPE foam. This EPE recycling machine mainly uses screw crushing and extrusion to reduce the volume of foam, so it consumes much less energy than a hot melt machine and does not produce harsh odors, which is much more environmentally friendly and energy efficient. In addition, the hot melt process may change the original chemical properties of the EPE foam.

Compression effect advantage

Although the compression ratio of the GREENMAX foam compactor Zeus Series is not as high as that of a hot-melt machine, it ensures that the EPE foam will not bounce or expand from the inside during subsequent transportation or storage. This is because the machine adds a surface hot melt function at the discharge port, which melts the surface of the crushed foam at a high temperature and causes it to solidify quickly in the air.

Ordinary cold-press compactors mainly use a screw to crush and compact the foam, and are unable to handle EPE foam. Because EPE foam is highly elastic, it is likely to rebound and return to its original shape after compaction, which makes the reduction effect poor. Therefore, GREENMAX has upgraded the technology based on the common cold-press compactor to improve the efficiency of EPE recycling.

The foam will form uniform fragments in the EPE compactor crushing bin and be continuously squeezed by the screw in the compaction bin. The pressing plate above the foam compactor compaction bin will continue to compact the EPE foam fragments into blocks and melt the surface of the compressed foam in the heating bin to form a thin and hard film. The melted surface prevents the EPE foam from expanding again and ensures that the compacted blocks maintain their reduced volume during storage and transportation. Finally, the machine's automatic cutting device will evenly cut the long foam blocks.

GREENMAX foam compactor Zeus Series is energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, and can handle the volume reduction of EPE foam very well. This equipment is the best EPE recycling solution for customers in Europe and parts of Asia. In addition to being optimized for EPE foam, this EPE compactor can also handle a variety of foam types, including EPS, XPS and EPP.
