Fundraiser of Recycle Utah in Last Friday Promotes Polystyrene Recycling
Last Friday an uncorked fundraiser happened in Utah. Different from other fundraisers, this one will feature a barbecue, games, and live music by the bluegrass band Picky Out the Stingers. The event is run by Recycle Utah, a nonprofit that works to reduce pollution and waste. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., food, drinks, and band performances will continue to be provided to those who attend. This fundraiser is doomed to be successful because residents are doing their part to protect waste materials such as polystyrene away from landfills.
In fact, Uncorked started as a campaign to support glass recycling. However, with the increase of time, people's awareness of environmental protection has gradually increased, and it has gradually been found that many waste materials will cause more pollution if they are not recycled. As a result, Uncorked can now support various recycling businesses such as cardboard recycling, metal recycling, and polystyrene recycling, to name a few.
Polystyrene is a recyclable material, and this view has gradually begun to be accepted by the public in recent years. Polystyrene was invented less than a hundred years ago, but it has caused great pollution to the entire ecological environment. The figure of polystyrene in the ocean and lake is visible, and the polystyrene on the roadside is also scattered everywhere. Most of the polystyrene is buried underground, ending its mission in landfills. We cannot ignore the pollution caused by polystyrene. Polystyrene is difficult to biodegrade, but since it contains 98% air, polystyrene can be compressed well for recycling.
This year up to now, people in Utah have collected 42,000 pounds of polystyrene waste. The number of collected polystyrene goes up every year. It is a good sign that every citizen is committed to cleaning up landfills, reducing polystyrene waste, and promoting a circular economy. People in Park City, Utah State are so enthusiastic about polystyrene recycling, the situation of polystyrene recycling will be better and better.
