On January 6, New Jersey held a polystyrene collection event in Hawthorne that was open to local residents and quickly filled two trucks.

The event started at 9am on Saturday morning and half an hour later the first truck was filled with white foam. Therefore, another trunk is required to transport all polystyrene to be dropped. Volunteers assisted the driver in unloading the polystyrene and stacking it in the Hawthorne Pool parking lot while waiting for a second truck.

Shipping untreated foam directly by truck is inefficient because the foam has a low density and takes up a lot of space for its small weight.
