Tesla has established a partnership with INTCO Recycling GREENMAX and uses foam densifier for EPE recycling

According to research by Future Market Insights, the global EPE packaging market will achieve a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.1% during the forecast period of 2023. The market value is expected to increase from US$1.4 billion to US$2.1 billion. The diversity of EPE foam packaging is constantly changing the status quo of the packaging market. Various industries have a tendency to turn to this multi-functional and environmentally friendly material. EPE packaging can indeed always meet the different needs of customers.

In the medical field, EPE foam packaging is widely used due to its excellent cushioning and shock-absorbing properties, making it an ideal material for medical device packaging. Not only to protect expensive medical equipment, many precision automobile parts are protected by EPE foam packaging. Tesla, a well-known automobile company, is currently cooperating with a machinery company under INTCO Recycling to use foam densifier to recycle EPE foam.

EPE foam is more flexible than EPS foam, so more people choose to use hot melt technology for recycling in order to better compress this foam. The Foam densifier heats and melts the foam, with a compression ratio of 90:1. After sufficient melting, the extruded melted EPE will cool down over a period of time to form a dense foam ingot, which is the first step in foam recycling. Tesla has started a foam recycling project a long time ago, and this is not the first time it has used a foam recycling machine. This time it replaced the equipment to find a foam densifier with better performance, so INTCO Recycling GREENMAX established a cooperative relationship.

At present, the application of EPE is gradually spreading across various industries. In the food industry, EPE foam packaging is used to transport perishable products. Its excellent insulation properties help maintain the temperature of the products and ensure that they arrive at their destination in the best condition. The construction industry also uses EPE foam packaging for insulation. Therefore, EPE foam recycling should be taken seriously, and foam densifier should also be actively put into use.
